I have always loved making art, but since university I have been guilty of not making enough time for it. Recently I have been making an effort to change that, and having so much fun along the way!
I recently joined a local artist group, and showed my work in public for the first time. Meeting other creative people really inspired me and reminded me how much I love to create things.
I also recently held my first art stall, and sold my first painting and prints. I had a table next to my best friend from university, and our partners and friends were there to support us too - which made everything less daunting!
This is what I have learned:
Community is really important. Meeting like minded people and having the support of friends, family and my partner has given me the confidence and encouragement I needed.
Art is made to be shared! It’s still a pinch me moment to think my painting will be in somebody’s home. My work is all about capturing the joy and beauty of the things around us, so it’s amazing to be able to share that with others.
Finally, putting yourself out there is never as scary as you think it will be.
